Jesus of Nazareth
A Jewish teacher traveled and preached throughout Judaea and neighboring Galilee. These teachings began a new movement within Judaism. After reports spread that he had overcome death, the movement gained additional support throughout Judaea and Galilee and led to the development of a new faith that became known as Christianity
Paul of Tarsus (Saul)
a highly educated Jewish Roman citizen who joined the movement later. He took the messages of Jesus to Gentiles - non Jews - as well as to Jews. He founded Christian communities in Asia Minor and along the shores of the Aegean Sea
Theodosius the Great
under him, the Romans adopted Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire
Constantine
In the 4th century, Christianity prospered as never before when he became the 1st Christian emperor. Although he was not baptized until the end of his life, in 313 he issued the Edict of Milan, which proclaimed official tolerance of Christianity.
