Phrases and Sentences
  • You are familiar with the English alphabet.
  • There are 26 letters of the alphabet which include 5 vowels and 21 consonants.

What is a phrase?
  • Read the two groups of words.
  • These group of words do non give a complete significance. Such groups of words are called phrases.
What is a sentence?
  • Read the group of words.
  • This group of words convey complete significance. Such a group of words is called a sentence. A sentence begins with a capital missive. It ends with a full halt (.) exclaiming grade (!) or a inquiry grade (?)
Types of sentences
  • A revealing sentence ( declaratory sentence ) makes a statement and ends with a period ( . ) .

  • An inquiring sentence ( interrogative sentence ) asks a inquiry and ends with a inquiry grade ( ? ) .

  • A sentence has two parts – The topic and the predicate
  • The topic of the sentence Tells who or what the sentence is approximately. It is normally found in the beginning of a sentence. It can include pronouns and nouns with adjectives that describe the topic.
  • The Predicate is the action portion or it tells what the topic is or does. It contains the verb.
